I have always loved working out and going to the gym so when Anders took me on a tour of the school campus I asked him to point out the gym and I took a special mental note as to how we got there. The sun finally shone for the first time yesterday so I figured it was the perfect day to venture out and register at the gym.
Fitnessdk is located only two metro stops away from my residence on campus and conveniently right between the two buildings where all of my classes will be. As I walked up to the building I was a little bit skeptical about the whole situation because the building looks extremely tiny from the outside but I went in and the receptionist was extremely kind. I was recommended to come back on Monday because they allow you to register for free on Mondays but was more than willing to let me use the facility for the day and check it out. He told me that the equipment was one floor down and the locker room was two: bingo! Everything is below ground and that is why the place looks so tiny.
Down the spirally staircase I went.
Feeling completely motivated. Until I reached the locker room doors- que American girl problem #1.
The words on the doors were written in Danish, obviously, but I have yet to pick up a single Danish word mainly because it is one the most confusing languages I have ever heard. Anyways, I had no idea what was for girls and what side was for guys. After about 30 seconds of standing there trying to guess what side I should go into, a young gentlemen kindly came to the rescue. After seeing him go to the left I reached for the door on the right. Overall, Fitnessdk is a pretty amazing facility. The locker rooms were some of the nicest I had ever seen and come completely stocked with blowdryers and almost everything else you need to put yourself together after a workout and before going to class.

There are multiple private vanity areas to get all dolled up in- the picture doesn't exactly do it justice.
Had to capture a duck-face selfie in honor of my mother!
Tanning bed which could come in handy since the sun is quite shy here in Copenhagen, even though the dermatologist assured me that tanning is "like so not even in style anymore".
I finished my self-guided tour of the locker room, stripped off my down coat since that is probably not the best thing to be wearing while working out but is more than necessary for making the trek to the gym, and got down to business.

Reppin' UW all the way in Copenhagen. Apologies for the double duck-face, I was just in that kind of mood.
Fitnessdk has all the equipment you could ever need and the cardio machines are the exact same brand and version that we have at the IMA in Washington and so I was feeling completely at home and comfortable- que American girl problem #2.
The metric system. Everything is weighed in kilograms here in Denmark and I have absolutely no idea how that converts to pounds. Being the semi-logical girl I am, I just set it to 25KG and sit one rep to see if it was too easy or too heavy. I started from the least to avoid going too heavy and being that annoying person who slams the weights down. I finally felt like Goldilocks with the perfecttt porridge when I hit 40KG and just FYI: that converts to about 89 pounds.
Overall, I considered my first work out in Copenhagen to be a success, approved of Fitnessdk, and have planned to go back on Monday after class to register.
Get fit or die trying!
